Sotiris venizelos Kalaitzakis
Sotiris Kalaitzakis holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Hellenic Mediterranean University in the direction of Robotics-Mechatronics. He has a degree grade of 7.93. His thesis is about an anthropomorphic robotic hand. In February 2019, he did his six-month internship at HMU's CSRL lab.
After the end of his internship he continued to work as a researcher in the CSRL laboratory, participating in two funded research programs in the agri-food sector. The first project involved the construction of a robotic vehicle for precision crop inspection and spraying. While the second program involved the construction of a robotic vehicle for the inspection, spraying and harvesting of greenhouse tomato fruit.
From July 2022 to May 2023, he worked in a private furniture manufacturing company as a mechanical engineer in the field of furniture design.
Since September 2022 he has been teaching educational robotics to students, the teams he has coached have won 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals in various student robotics competitions. He is also a coach in the Greek National Robotics Team.
It is certified by the LEGO EDUCATION ACADEMY for the Spike Prime educational package. He also holds three online course certifications from Universal Robotics, e-Series Core Track, e-Series Pro Track and e-Series Application Track.
He has supported several projects in his field of expertise. He was responsible for the creation of low-cost ventilators during the corona pandemic. He has also won funding from the Region of Crete, for the development of a ventilation bag compression device to assist nurses. Many of the projects he has participated in have been widely recognized in local and national media.
He is currently working as a freelance Mechanical Engineer, as he is also a lab manager and researcher at the CSRL robotics lab of the Hellenic Mediterranean University.
He is a founding member of the HMU Robotics Club. He was president of the Club during its founding to help set it up. He was also responsible for three Club projects
